DAY 1 DEPART FOR GENEVA, SWITZERLAND

Depart the United States from your local international airport and fly to Geneva, Switzerland, where you'll embark on an exciting European adventure, setting the stage for a luxurious and leisurely barge cruise through the picturesque canals and charming countryside of France.

DAY 2 WELCOME TO DIJON, FRANCE

Upon our arrival in Geneva, Switzerland, we will embark on a picturesque journey from Geneva Airport to the charming city of Dijon, France where you'll have some free time to explore the area prior to boarding the vessel. Nestled in the heart of Burgundy, Dijon serves as the gateway to our enchanting adventure aboard the elegant canal barge Danielle, which will be our home for the next six nights. After settling into our cozy and beautifully appointed cabins, we’ll gather to meet the welcoming crew, who will introduce us to life aboard the barge. The evening will begin with a delightful welcome cocktail, where we can mingle and toast to the exciting days ahead, followed by our first included gourmet dinner, showcasing the rich culinary traditions of the region.

DAY 3 DIJON - PETIT-OUGES

Join us for an unforgettable excursion along the renowned Grands Crus wine route, a journey through the heart of Burgundy's most prestigious and celebrated vineyards. This picturesque route weaves through idyllic villages and rolling hills adorned with world-famous vines, offering a glimpse into the rich heritage and artistry of wine making. Along the way, we’ll pause for an indulgent wine-tasting* session, savoring some of the finest vintages the region has to offer.

 

After this delightful experience, we’ll return to the comfort of our barge and begin a leisurely cruise to the quaint village of Petit-Ouges. As we glide along the tranquil waters, marvel at the breathtaking, verdant scenery of the Saône Valley, a patchwork of lush greenery and serene countryside. Upon arriving in Petit-Ouges, step ashore to explore the enchanting "Path of the Three Wash Houses," a charming trail that meanders through history, connecting traditional stone washhouses nestled within this picturesque village.

DAY 4 PETIT-OUGES - SAINT JEAN-DE-LOSNE

The whole day will be spent cruising towards Saint-Jean-de-Losne. Take the time to sit back and admire the vineyards and scenery that we'll slowly pass by as we cruise. We'll arrive in Saint-Jean-de-Losne late in the afternoon.

DAY 5 SAINT JEAN-DE-LOSNE - DOLE

Join us on an enchanting visit to Saint-Jean-de-Losne, a historic gem and the undisputed capital of canal barging in France. Nestled at the heart of the French waterways and canal system in the picturesque region of southern Burgundy, this charming riverside town is steeped in centuries of maritime tradition. As we wander through its cobblestone streets, we’ll uncover the rich heritage of this bustling hub, once a vital crossroads for trade and transport, and explore its fascinating connection to the canal lifestyle.

In the afternoon, we’ll return to the serene comfort of our barge and set sail for the enchanting town of Dole. As we cruise leisurely along the peaceful waterways, take in the serene beauty of the Burgundy countryside, with its rolling hills, vibrant greenery, and tranquil reflections on the water. Relax on deck, savor the passing vistas, and let the gentle rhythm of the journey immerse you in the charm of this unforgettable region.

DAY 6 DOLE - RANCHOT 

Embark on a whimsical and one-of-a-kind adventure as we follow the "Trail of the Chat Perché," a delightful journey inspired by the beloved tales of The Perched Cat, written by Marcel Aymé, a celebrated French author who spent his childhood in Dole. This enchanting trail not only brings to life the magical stories of Aymé's feline protagonist but also showcases the charm of Dole itself, perched gracefully on a picturesque hillside. As we explore this charming town, you’ll feel the blend of literary history and scenic beauty that makes this experience truly unforgettable.

After our captivating visit, we’ll return to the barge and continue our serene cruise towards the quaint village of Ranchot. For those feeling adventurous, take advantage of the bicycles available on board and ride along the scenic bike path that runs parallel to the canal. Pedal at your own pace, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, lush countryside, and gentle breeze as you follow the barge’s route—a perfect way to immerse yourself in the idyllic charm of Burgundy.

DAY 7  RANCHOT - BESANCON

The morning unfolds in a leisurely fashion as we glide peacefully along the canal, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the Burgundy countryside. Enjoy the gentle rhythm of the water as you relax on deck or savor a quiet moment in the cozy salon, letting the serene landscape of lush greenery and charming villages pass by. This is the perfect time to indulge in the slower pace of barge life, perhaps with a cup of coffee or a good book in hand.

In the afternoon, we’ll embark on an unforgettable journey by coach to Arc-et-Senans, home to the magnificent Saline Royale. A masterpiece of 18th-century industrial architecture, this royal saltworks is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an extraordinary example of visionary urban planning. Built between 1775 and 1779 in a grand semi-circular design, the site once served as a hub where salt workers both lived and worked. During our guided tour, we’ll delve into the fascinating history and innovation behind this architectural marvel, while admiring its stunning symmetry and the ingenuity of its design.

This evening, the magic continues with a gala dinner aboard the barge. Celebrate our unforgettable journey with an exquisite meal prepared by our talented onboard chef. DAY 8  BESANCON, FR - NEUCHATEL - BERN, SWITZERLAND EXTENSION

Savor one final breakfast on board, indulging in freshly baked pastries, seasonal fruits, and artisanal delights as you reflect

on the memories of your serene journey. After bidding farewell to Besançon, the barge and its crew, we’ll set out on a scenic drive through the rolling countryside. As you cross into Switzerland, the landscape transforms into a painter’s masterpiece — lush green valleys, sparkling lakes, and jagged alpine peaks that seem to touch the sky.

 

Your first stop is the majestic Neuchâtel Castle, a sentinel of stone perched above the shimmering lake that shares its name. With a private guide, you’ll explore this architectural treasure, wandering through centuries-old halls and courtyards while hearing tales of dukes, counts, and intrigue that shaped the region’s history. From the castle’s heights, soak in panoramic views that will leave you breathless — a perfect prelude to what’s to come.

DAY 9  SPIEZ - MONTREAUX BY TRAIN

Begin your day with an extraordinary journey aboard the Golden Mountain Express, a breathtaking train ride from Spiez to the glamorous lakeside town of Montreux. As the train weaves through the majestic Swiss Alps, you’ll be captivated by panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, verdant valleys, and shimmering alpine lakes. This unforgettable experience allows you to immerse yourself in the unparalleled beauty of Switzerland's landscapes, where every turn reveals a scene more stunning than the last. Upon arriving in Montreux, a town famed for its elegance and cultural charm, we’ll visit the legendary Queen Studio Experience, nestled within the Montreux Casino. This iconic recording studio, where the legendary rock band Queen recorded some of their greatest hits, offers a rare glimpse into the creative process of musical legends. DAY 10 MONTREAUX - GENEVA

Begin the day with a scenic journey by coach from Montreux, traveling through Switzerland’s enchanting countryside and across the border into France, bound for the picturesque alpine village of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. Nestled at the foot of Western Europe’s highest peak, Mont Blanc, this iconic destination boasts some of the most breathtaking mountain landscapes in the world. (Weather permitting)

Once in Chamonix, prepare for a thrilling adventure as we board a cable car to ascend to the Mont Blanc glacier. As we glide higher and higher, the panoramic views become ever more spectacular, with jagged peaks, shimmering glaciers, and the awe-inspiring beauty of the Alps stretching as far as the eye can see. At the top, take a moment to marvel at the sheer majesty of Mont Blanc and the surrounding glaciers. DAY 11  GENEVA, SWITZERLAND
